To be fair, there are definitely some things I like about this vacuum.
-The maneuverability surpasses that of any of the vacuums I have previously owned.
-It's bagless, and easy to empty.
-I'm impressed with the filtering. The dust from previous vacuums used to irritate my asthma; the air is definitely cleaner using the Dyson.
-It's well proportioned: it vacuums easily under my sofa, under my cabinets (where I had previous problems with my old Oreck reaching), and between the legs of my dining chairs.
-The suction. Yes, it's good, but with a caveat (see below).
Now, those things all being said, I do not think this vacuum was worth the money spent.
-I know others have commented on the attachment wand, but I feel compelled to reiterate. It is AWKWARD, and not just a little. I'm not sure I will ever warm up to it. The hose portion is too short, and the wand portion is way too long. It doesn't sound as bad as it really is. It bothers me enough that I wish I could return it for this reason alone. It is easy to reach the floor, but if I am aiming for anything else (window sills, counter top, washer/dryer, etc), I end up running into walls with it or having to reposition myself altogether to make the wand reach where I need to get. Not user friendly at all.
-Now, I know I said the suction is good, and it is; but there is something flawed about the design of the rotating brush that invalidates any benefit you might be gaining from the increased suction. Will someone please explain to me why a vacuum that costs more than $400 won't pick up a piece of paper slightly larger than the size of a quarter? This is very irritating to me. I have little kids, and they get a kick out of ripping paper to shreds or 'practicing' with scissors. So, needless to say, there have been countless times I've had to vacuum up small pieces of paper all over the floor. I have never had this issue with my Oreck or my Kenmore. And, I would use the wand instead, but what a pain. Dare I say, it's actually easier to pick up all the pieces by hand.
-Again, the brush, but a separate point. And again, the suction. To credit the suction, I will say that I am surprised (in a good way) by the amount of teeny tiny specks of dust and dirt that end up in the canister. However, that being said, when I am done vacuuming, it doesn't LOOK like I've vacuumed. For some reason, the brush doesn't lift the carpet pile like my old Kenmore. There are some heavy traffic areas that I find I have to go over and over again to raise the pile from looking 'matted down'. I was surprised enough (NOT in a good way) that I pulled out my old Kenmore for comparison, and I was not pleased.
If I had to do this all over again, I'd buy a cheaper vacuum and spend the other $200 on a nice piece of jewelry for myself! So not worth it. Your mileage may vary...Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner.
