This is a very good, but not great, vacuum cleaner. We have had it about 4 months. We paid $425 at BestBuy. They matched a sale price on Amazon.com.
It has a high 'cool' factor (for a vacuum). I like the small size, light weight, and maneuverability. It cleans very well on carpet. The suction is very strong, but there is not much volume to the suction. I hope that makes sense. The inner diameters of the various hoses and passages is not very big. On bare floors it easily picks up light, loose stuff like pet hair and dust bunnies, but it has a harder time with more dense material, like tracked scattered kitty litter.
It is impressive to see the dirt and material collected in the collection bin. But is it really picking up more than a conventional vacuum with a bag that you cannot see inside? I'm not sure that it is...
As for the attachments, it is nice to have them always available since they are mounted to the machine. It is fairly easy to get the vacuum in attachment mode and back to normal. In order to use the full claimed 16 feet of reach you will need another person to hold the machine steady since the recoil strength of the clear vinyl hose is very strong, and will easily pull the machine over. The longer attachment has a retractable brush that retracts too easily, and you wind up thinking you're using the brush but in reality it has retracted and the hard plastic body is exposed.
The supporting mechanism (when the vac is 'parked') seems somewhat flimsy and occasionally needs to be coaxed into the upright locked position. It has always worked, though. I'm glad it has a 5 year warranty.
The claim about never losing suction is true. Emptying the collection bin is easy, but once in awhile it needs to be thoroughly cleaned out to remove the material that clings to the inner parts and doesn't simply fall out when the trap door is opened.
Pros:
'Cool' factor: It's a Dyson, man!
Small size
Light weight
Maneuverability
Strong suction
Cleans very well on carpet
You can 'see' the dirt you're picking up
Easy to empty
5 year warranty
Cons:
Expensive
Short cord
Cannot roll under furniture
Not as impressive on bare floors
Stiff attachment hose
The one attachment brush retracts too easily
Required quarterly filter washings
98% plastic construction
Overall, it's a good vacuum. I do not think it's as good as Dyson's marketing team does. Would I buy it again? Maybe.
