After having to purchase 6 vacuum cleaners from the discount stores in 6 years because of burned out motors, even though I'm not particularly hard on sweepers, I decided to invest in a Dyson. So far, I'm very pleased. It does a beautiful job on carpet and vinyl floors. The wand extends a long ways so I can sweep the stairs without lugging a heavy sweeper down a precarious path. It's easy to empty the canister after each use. Manuverability is great, and I'm able to get corners, under cabinet overhangs, and under low furniture easily.
