On the surface there are plenty of reasons to like this vacuum. It has very good suction, looks kind of cool and is extremely maneuverable. All the attachments and accessories click into place on the vacuum itself to keep everything handy and organized. My favorite feature is the very light weight. However the DC25 has some shortcomings. The cord is too short. I used to be able to vacuum our entire place with just 2 moves of the plug. Now it takes 4 - this adds up to more time spent vacuuming. The hose is quite short and very stiff - rather than the hose stretching, the vacuum tends pull along behind me, eventually tipping over if I pull too far. Combined with the long wand, it is quite awkward to use - especially in tight places. This gives the vacuum limited utility for tasks like vacuuming the car or working behind furniture. The most serious flaw is that this vacuum cleaner is useless on stairs. It won't balance easily on normal depth stairs and even if it did, the reach will only allow me to vacuum 2-3 stairs on either side of the machine. We own a three level townhome style condo with two flights of stairs. The amount of time to vacuum my home has tripled and I have had to buy another vacuum to do stairs, cars and furniture. My review sounds quite harsh to all the Dyson fans out there but this vacuum did not replace some cheap Hoover. We had a nice, but old Electrolux. The fact remains that vacuuming now takes longer for me with results that are no better than with my old vacuum. I am unimpressed.
Update: After another month with this machine my views have softened somewhat. Partly because the second vacuum that I had to buy for stairs and such really works well and has allowed me to be more efficient vacuuming than with just the DC25. In my earlier comments, I noted that the cord was a bit stiff. This has turned out to be an advantage as the cord does not seem to kink or knot easily. On the other hand, the "ball" feature isn't really that big of deal to me after all. At first, the maneuverability was kind of neat but it really hasn't changed much in how I vacuum - it's not the revolution the marketers would have you believe. Finally, this vacuum does not seem to do a good job lifting up flattened, low pile carpet in high traffic areas (relative to my old vacuum). I find myself going over these area many times to get the carpet looking nice. I suspect it is something with the height of the beater brush (not adjustable) since the suction is good on this machine. Also, I don't like that the beater defaults to "on" when you start the machine.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner.
